| Brit moving to San Diego for Fall semester - seeks roommate or apartment! |
[10 Jul 2009|06:01am] |
Hey everyone,
I am new to this community, and to San Diego! In fact at the moment I am still at home in London, England. But I will be moving to San Diego in August, to begin my Masters at SDSU this Fall.
I have a friend who I can stay with when I first arrive, but I'm hoping that won't be necessary. So can anyone help me out with finding a place to live? Anyone need a roommate? I am a 30 year old British male, considerate, respectful, quiet, interesting, and fun. My interests are music, literature, movies, photography, and travel.
Alternatively, would anyone be interested in renting a 2 bedroom place at the Dorado Plaza apartments with me? I have heard good things about that place.
Or, lastly, could anyone point me to some useful househunting links?
Thank you all, and I look forward to maybe meeting some of you this Fall!
Stefan x

Hey, anyone know of any indoor rock climbing places close to Glendale? I went to Rock Gym Indoor Climbing Center in Long Beach, but it's such a long drive that I'm not really motivated to go back. -_-

| Greek theatre |
[09 Jul 2009|05:23pm] |
I'm planning on seeing the show next month at the Greek. It is a Tuesday night and I've already printed the MTA schedules for the bus ride home, however, if the concert ends after the last bus has come and gone, I'm wondering if anybody knows what the taxi cab situation is like at the Greek. In other words, does one have to make there way down by foot to the corner of Los Feliz and Vermont to find cabs, or will there be a few lingering cabs outside the Greek entrance?
PS I wouldn't have to worry about a ride if I wasn't a drunk or if I knew friends planning on going to the show on August 11.

| Simone Legno for Target |
[09 Jul 2009|07:20pm] |
I didn't see this posted here yet. Simone Legno did a series of items for Back-to-School for Target. There is a messenger bag, a backpack, some kids t-shirts and misc. other school supplies. I stopped by my Target (Baltimore) and they had put up a display in the middle of the back-to-school section just for his stuff, but it wasn't full yet. The bags are both kind of cheap quality, but would be great for kids (which is what they're geared for anyway). There are cute composition books, spiral notebooks, clipboards, etc. also. There are also a few paper goods from Tokidoki, including a calendar, a stationery set and a journal. Check it out!

| advice needed! |
[09 Jul 2009|03:03pm] |
Hey everyone - I was wondering if any of you had some wise advice for me. I am thinking about having my birthday celebration at Boardner's in Hollywood. The question I have is, that I want to have it on a Saturday night, and I was wondering how packed that place gets on Saturdays..... if it is just too packed to be comfortable? I know it is attached to Bar Sinister, so I am wondering if that makes a difference.
Also, any other bars around the Hollywood area that have that same vibe - kinda dark, loungy atmosphere, not too loud? suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

| Word 5 in the Weather Series - hail |
[08 Jul 2009|02:29pm] |
|
hail, n. [heyl, hāl] -Meaning 'precipitation in the form of pellets of ice that fall from the sky, frozen rain,' hail has been in use in English for many centuries. It was first recorded with its modern spelling around 1250 C.E. and was developed from Late Old English hagol (c. 1000). The earlier Old English version of this word, recorded in 750, is hægel, which is related to Old Frisian heil, Old Saxon and Old High German hagal, Old Icelandic hagl, Middle Low German hagel, and Middle Dutch haghel, all meaning 'hail.' These words are descended from West Germanic haglaz from Proto-Germanic hazlaz. Scholars are not certain but they belief this Proto-Germanic word is derived from prehistoric Indo-European kaghlo 'pebble.'

| CBLDF Offers Strangers in Paradise Omnibus Lettered Edition |
[08 Jul 2009|10:51am] |
Abstract Studio & Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Team Up to Support CBLDF!
http://www.cbldf.org/pr/archives/000401.shtml
Abstract Studio and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab have teamed up to create a strictly limited, lettered edition of the Strangers in Paradise Omnibus, a set that promises to be the rarest of all SiP collectibles, all to benefit the CBLDF! This item is available now, concurrent with an eBay auction to own letter A of Z with one of a kind Black Phoenix collectibles!
Limited to 26 copies, the SiP Omnibus Lettered Edition includes: One set of the strictly limited three-volume hardcover SiP Omnibus edition, an original drawing by Terry Moore, and a bottle of "Parker Lily," a fragrance based on Terry Moore's beloved epic created by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, and strictly limited to 26 bottles. All sets can be available for pick up at Comic-Con in San Diego, or will be mailed in the first week of August. Choose the option you prefer when you add this item to your cart.
If that weren't enough, right now the Fund is offering the rarest SiP item of all on eBay -- Letter A of this limited edition set, plus a bottle each of the two prototypes of Parker Lily! These prototype fragrances are the same ones sent to Terry Moore for approval and are a one of a kind offering! Bidding on this CBLDF exclusive is now open.
First published in 1993, Strangers in Paradise was created by Terry Moore. This long-running, mostly self-published series attracted graphic novel fans from all walks of life. Winner of multiple awards, including the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series, the series concluded in 2007. The adventures of Francine, Katchoo, and their friends and enemies are continually popular, always in print, and have been translated into thirteen languages worldwide.
"We couldn't be happier about supporting the CBLDF with this once in a lifetime offering," SiP creator Terry Moore says. "We're also honored to work with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, who did an astonishing job capturing the spirit of SiP in the Parker Lily Fragrance. As a long-time supporter of the Fund and their ongoing fight for the comics community's First Amendment rights, I'm thrilled to lend a hand!
